The prophet Isaiah predicted that the Messiah would not speak in his own defense, even though he would eventually be condemned to death. 700 years later, Jesus remained silent as he stood before Pilate, the Roman governor, as he was being falsely accused of many crimes by the Jewish leaders.

He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.

Isaiah 53:7
